Interesting issue going on here. I'm trying to see if there is way to reset this all together.

I have an [OLD MAC] that runs mac os 10.12.6 Sierra. From any other mac on the network if try to connect to this sierra machine [OLD MAC] I get a "Connection Failed" error. Even if I go and manually select "Connect As" and enter the correct credentials still this same issue "Connection Failed" Screen Share however works flawlessly.

Interestingly on manual connection via ⌘+K I can enter smb or cifs://192.x.x.x everything works like a dream! Just not via bonjour discovery.

In system preferences ✅File Sharing is checked. Correct folders are there, in options I have SMB ✅ by default.

If I switch things over to AFP only similar experience as in it does not connect as guest by default. I can howerver "Connect As" and this works.

----------------

The desired outcome I'm looking for here is what comes default from macos.

File Share is on SMB only on [OLD MAC]. When I browse to Network (bonjour discovery) via finder from any other mac in the network I should be able to click on [OLD MAC] and it should connect automatically as guest and make folders available, for additional access/rw I should be able to "Connect As" and enter credentials.

----------------

Please advise.

This has to do with the old Mac! Sometime several years ago when Apple was developing their new file system they went SMB instead! So that is source of your problem and it’s funny because there were many threads about that at that time! Your late to old problem!

Hmm sounds like I could just keep it AFP only. But again similar issue. Things don’t auto connect to guest. Have to manually “Connect As” guest or user.

think the cleanest/reliable method would be to create a list at ⌘+K and it may be faster too.

If you mount frequent shares then once it is mounted on the desktop as user you drag that share to the right side on Dock and in future click on that share icon it will connect to share again!
