Having trouble getting itunes library from my iphone to imac

I just got my imac delivered to me today (awesome machine btw), but can't get all my stuff (music,movies, apps) onto the itunes library of the imac.

Past computers, as soon as i plugged the ipod/iphone in the computer, it asked me right away if I want to transfer everything on the computer. Some reason here, it doesn't. It'll ask if I want to erase, when I obviously don't.

What am I doing wrong? First time I've owned a mac desktop so don't mind me lol

I THINK you need to adjust a setting with in iTunes so that it imports your stuff.

Like im pressing "transfer purchases", nothing happens. Then "sync", nothing happens. Then manually manage music, and it'll say "do you want to delete your iphone stuff and replace it with your itunes library" when there is nothing in my itunes library.
