After a period using my HS 5870 I switched over t0 my EII flashed HIS HD 7950.

The 7950 is in PCIe slot 1

In Sierra 10.12. 6 Link width = X8. Link speed = 5.0 GT/s

In High Sierra 10.13.0 Link width = x16 Link speed = 5.0 GT/s

( About to upgrade tonight to 10.13.4 )

Anyone have any thoughts why the Link width shows as x8 in Sierra ? Sierra bug ?

EDIT : Oops ! I should have put " LINK WIDTH" in the thread title.

Should be x16 for 7950 all the way. I used 7950 since Mavericks, always shows PCIe 2.0 x16.

I also owned a HIS R9 280 with resistor mod, also shows PCIe 2.0 x16 in slot 1.

That PCIe page info often wrong anyway. So, unless the card's performance is clearly way below normal. I will say no need to worry about it.

Thanks, The card appears to be working well.

If 10.13.4 shows continued stability I'll switch over some of my non-crucial projects & apps.

Off topic ; I'm still in 10.13.0 but Rename Bluetooth devices is working - that is good as Ihave three of the same model headsets.

I highly suggest upgrade to 10.13.4 ASAP. I had few KP back in 10.13.0, bit zero KP once upgraded to 10.13.1. So, better avoid 10.13.0 if possible.

Strange but after running my Hi Sierra 10.13.0 instal last night. . . I'm back in Sierra 10.12.6 and. . . the 7950 is back to Link Width = x16 !

Either moving my USB 3.1 card from slot 4 to PCIe slot 2 .. . or perhaps running Hi Sierra somehow altered my 2009 cMP's SMC .. . or something ? ? ?

Anyway the problem has solved itself.
