I am going to purchase a apple display and was wondering if the 23" Hd is worth the additional funds.
I will be using it as a display obviously, but I would like to use it to plaay Xbox 360. How much of a difference will the HD make and should spend the $.

for monitors, the 360 actually uses VGA.

for what it's worth, i bought a 20.1" Dell FW2005 (whatever the number is) for the xbox 360, and a nice monitor.

i think it's the same as the 20" apple display, just a lot cheaper.

23 inch is definately (and very noticably) bigger than 20. However the price diff is pretty big for extra 3 inches. if you need large screen, get it.

Dont know anything about xbox

I agree, if you look at the 20" and the 23", the 23" is really a lot bigger and is worth the difference in price. Also it is a HD display.

So, the display will not support a 360? (i took a 2nd look and the 360 is VGA while the display is DVI :(
...and exactly how much of a visual performance upgrade does the HD offer?

Thank You, I appreciate all of your feedback.

I know this is probably blasphemy, but have you considered the Dell 24"? It does 1900x1200 and has all the inputs(VGA, DVI, component, S-Video) you may need. Does the casing look as good as the Apple, of course not. But the screen quality is on par, especially given you can usually get it for $800 or less. I bought one over the summer, and have no complaints at all with it except I have to sit back a bit further from the screen than I would like. :)

As far as I know, there's an integrated A/V port in the Xbox 360, same as it was in the 360. They'll probably just release a cable that allows you to connect the system to whatever input you have.

like i said before, the xbox 360 uses VGA, and my dell (same screen as apple 20") has DVI and VGA, so i'm good. as far as quality, if you are going to use VGA, the 20" is fine (can't take advantage of HD - as far as i know)

The 23" is, indeed, very different from the 20". I have a dell 20.1" wide (same as the Apple) and an Apple 23" sitting next to each other and there's no comparison.

If you can afford the 23" and like a lot of desktop space, get the 23" every day.

>>>Actually...you're simply smart! I'm sounding like a broken record, but...
One correction...the Dell is NOT on par with the Apple..it's BETTER than the Apple 23". The Dell 24" is better performing...bigger... and $520 cheaper. See barefeats.com for their comparison between the Apple 23" and the Dell 24". Keep in mind, barefeats.com is an **APPLE** fan site...yet..it was clear...the Dell was better. period. The latest dell coupons expired on the 31st, but they will come around again fairly soon. With the coupon, the Dell 24" was $779. Check daily with barefeats.com or dealmac.com for the coupons. Try to support barefeats...please.

For the $1299 - go buy a Mitshubishi 55inch HDTV - I play Xbox on that and it is KILLER!

I have a 23inch HD and other than the Movie trailers I do not think there is much more use for the HD feature.... at least not yet....

I'm close to an Apple fanboy, but for what you want to do -- both computer and XBox -- you really want the Dell 24", not an Apple monitor, since it has all the TV-style inputs. Plus it'll cost you less than the Apple 20".

The only vote in favor of the Apple monitors right now is style and size (they have a much smaller desk footprint--basically zero), but that's a lot to pay for either. Not quite as bad with the recent price drops, but they're still very pricey.

That said, I have an Apple 20" (bought before the price from other makers came down so low) and I do love Apple's thinness (the Dells have the power brick built into the display, so it's a whole lot fatter and has a bunch of ventilation holes in the back).

blasphemy!!!! How dare you!!!

Malfoy, jaduffy108, and Makosuke!!! How dare you use the"D" word on MacRumors!!! :p

Actually, I agree with you three. The Dell 24" is cheaper and what I have read about it here on MacRumors, seems better than the Apple 23". I just got my Apple 23" HD last Thursday. Watching HD movies on it was okay, nothing significant compare to watching it on my TV. My wife kept asking me, "So why didn't we get the Dell 24"? And my only answer was "It looks great next to my powerbook."

Don't get me wrong, I love my 23" display. I am a loyalist (note to self: call Apple to see if I can return the display). :D

Seriously, there is nothing wrong with the Apple display, just cost more $$.
