Im going to be getting an external HD (Lacie) and i was wondering if there was a best format for it, if im not going to be using it with a PC. Or if a PC compatible format is just as good and provides that 'incase' factor.

Go ahead and use a standard Mac format. No reason not to for you, and it'll decrease any hassles in the future.
