I have searched around here and all over the net and decided to post here to see what you all are doing about your portable HD options.

I see that there are a couple options on the format type for the HD. NTSF, FAT32, and the apple HFS and HFS+.

I am trying to figure out which the best option to leave the all my options open. I just bought my Macbook Pro and what to be able to share files from my PC to Mac and back again. I have a PC desktop, and laptop and now this Macbook Pro. I'm about 80% sold on keeping this Macbook Pro and maybe converting over totally. But I still will keep my desktop PC for a while.

Most of what I will be doing on this mac will be video editing and some web stuff. I don't plan and sharing a lot of this to the PC's once I start on the Mac.

So anyway that is what I am looking at, and just wondering what you all are doing with your files and HD's.

For those that wonder and ask why I'm not switching to Mac totally at this point. I think that I would but I got a Macbook Pro with a little bit of a screen issue (darker on the right edge then the rest of the screen) and my touch pad mouse seems a little buggy at times (pauses and sticks on screen at times). So over all guilty is my main issue for not making the total switch. I would get ride of my PC's if I didnt have this screen and mouse issue, and when I get the money for a Mac pro tower for at home ease of storage and so on.

Thanks!

As far as I know FAT32 is the only format that can be read and written by OS X and Windows.

The stupid thing is that XP cannot format a large drive FAT32 but OSX can (98 could as well)!

I think I had to download a utility to format a large external drive FAT32 (while using XP) once.

Yeah these are all issues in looking at.. Forgot to say that it is a 500GB drive.. Now from what I read I think that XP will see a HFS drive??

It's hit or miss.

And even if it can see it, it cannot write to it.

You might just want to format it for Mac and then get MacDrive and run that on Windows.

I also wanted to see what you all thought about my screen issues.. Its not a yellowing, but its more like a shadow on the right side.. Check it out..

I know the images are the best in the world, but I think that you can see the dark side on the right, as well as the lightness to the bottom.. Do you all have this issue also??

At the full brightness it will pretty much go away.. But I keep it at about 3 or 5 down depending on my current lighting.. Of course it will get worse the darker the screen..

This is a pic of it at the highest setting..

Well, it doesn't seem perfect but I could live with it.

My MBP is the older version so I don't really know how the new screen compares with mine. All I know is that your's is a different technology.

You photos aren't centered. Could it be that the edge(s) of your screen look darker because of the angle and not the brightness? If you move 6" to the right does that side of the screen look normal?

Yeah.. If i look at the screen from right on to maybe 5 degrees its shows this darkness.. If I go past that, it will go away.. I will proly just end up living with it.

Well I took my MBP to the apple store and had a genius look at it.. They agreed that it was there and bad, but live-able.. I decided that I wanted to take care of the issue. It was this way out of the box.. So I called apple and am doing an exchange.. :apple:

What are the specs of your Mac? Mine has similar dimness issues, my MBP is a 15" 2.4ghz 35th week Samsung matte display. There's no yellowing that I can see.
