I am planning to buy a 17" MBP. I do video edit for my hobbie by using finalcut HD. Does SSD make a difference for MBP's weight? Which one is better to chose?

this is a seagate 500gb 5400rpm vs the intel 80gb

That's great! How about performance wise... Ahold I buy SSD or HHD is good enough?

SSD is drastically faster than an HD. If you can afford one, get it.
The only down sides to a SSD are price and storage. Upsides are longer battery life, lighter weight, no moving parts, much faster speeds.

Any decent SSD will rape any 5400rpm HD in terms of performance.

The question is the price and storage.

If you can hold on with 120gb and get 1 or 2TB external drives with firmware, get an SSD if you can afford it.

If not, I suggest waiting for the next generation of SSDs which should start appearing by Fall/Winter.
