OK, sounds nuts, but Im looking for something very specific. I want a Point and Shoot camera capable of HD video (no time limits, card size limited only, 720p). Sound isnt high on the list, only picture. But here is the fun part ... 300.00 max, or preferably less. This will be hand ruggedized, so Id rather not modify really expensive cameras. Ive looked at some of the handheld cheapos (Xacti, HD-Go, etc.) but Id like to have a good camera too for stills. Lastly ... I hate Kodak, but if that all there is, then post away. Anyone?

Thanks in advance.

Yeah, it is a nice camera, but the "HD video" is only so in pixels, the camera dumps the FPS to 15.5 to achieve that size.

I'm looking at the Panny TZ5 to replace our old Sony P&S and to supplement our new dSLR. It was just announced a few weeks ago.

It's a 10x zoom compact P&S with 1280x720 30fps. The videos will likely be huge since it's using M-JPEG as the codec. I'm sure most computers will be able to work with the footage and/or convert it to a better/more efficient codec with minimal quality loss.

I'm not sure about the time limitations and such when shooting at 1280x720, but you can check out the specs.

Incidentally, the current TZ3 goes for about $275 or so. It shoots 853x480 30fps. The TZ4 also shoots 853x720 (just announced as well). I forget what the pricing range was, but I'd expect the TZ4 to be under $300 and the TZ5 to be slightly above $300.

EDIT - Amazon has the TZ5 on pre-order for $350.
