HD video editing i5 / i7 difference

I have G5 which takes 15 hours to write a DVD home movie.
I am planning to buy a new imac.
My choice is 27" 2.93 i7 8 ram or 21" 3.60 i5 8 ram
Does anyone know if there would be a SIGNIFICANT difference in processing a DVD between these two. It has been suggested i7 could do it in 3 hours.
Any ideas gratefully received

As video editing often includes encoding, definitely go with the i7. That i5 is dual core so even slower. If you want DVDs to be burned fast, then consider buying an external DVD burner, they are much faster than iMac's internal one

i5 can be quadcore, too. E.g. Handbrake also uses multiple cores. The i5 will be slower but if it is worth the money is your decision

The i5 in 21.5" i.e. i5-680 is dual core. Hyper-Threading doesn't make it a quad core or the i7 would be an 8-core
