HD7950 working with just 1080p resolution via mDP

My friends LG 27EA83 display with HD7950 card (PowerColor PCS+) is detected as TV when using DisplayPort and max. resolution is just 1080p.

When connected via DVI I got max. resolution which is 2560x1440. How to fix this ?

He's running latest OS X Yosemite 10.10.2.

I had the same problem on a 7970 with two ViewSonic VP2770s. I didn't find a solution and ended up using a mini display port to DVI adapter.

It's really annoying - I've hooked my HP ZR2240w via DisplayPort and it was detected properly with 1920x1080 resolution (which is max for this model).
