HDCP computer issue and buying HD movies in iTunes

So I went into iTunes to order Tron in HD.

BAM! "Your system is not HDCP compliant" or some DRM related crap like that.


I don't care that its not compliant I'm going to be watching it on my ATV2.

(thru the ATV2 there is only the rental option lol)


So how do I get past/bypass this crap without having to update my video card in my Windows 7 PC? (I know its the vidcard. The monitor is HDCP and I had this once before when playing a blu-ray in the computer's Br drive. I had to crack the movie I purchased, copy it to the hd and it played fine)

Don't know if this will work but I see you've got an iPhone, try the following. Purchase the movie on your iPhone, then pause the download and go to your PC and in iTunes do a "Check for available downloads" and it should download ok. If that dosen't work then just download it on your iPhone and sync it back to your computer.

I had already seen that the iPhone does indeed offer a direct purchase for HD. But it says that the SD version will be downloaded to the computer.

I tried the $20 expirement today lol.

Easy enough to purchase and download on the iPhone and it did sync to the computer.

It hung for a while at the end. I thought it might end up telling me some HDCP/DRM crap about not transferring to this computer.

Fortunately it worked out. It won't play on the computer but it looks great on the ATV2

I was wondering if your solution was still working. Can I download my movies to my IPad than sync them back to my computer. I am considering going back to using Blu Ray. Here is what I got back from ITunes help... Then my responce. Still no help.

MY RESPONCE...

This makes no sense since I have downloaded HD content from iTunes in the near
past. Further more, I am not downloading it to watch it from my computer but to
use multiple apple TV boxes to watch the HD movies. I am only using the computer
to store my media library. I know that I can download the HD Content to my IPad
or IPhone but since the apple corporation has limited the size of storage on
these devices I am left using the only alternative that I and millions of other
users have. "A computer hard drive". So what is the point to apple and iTunes
having a movie section when it is just as easy to go and buy a blu ray copy and
use a blu ray player. They have taken an advancement in technology and made it
worthless forcing the general user to resort in going back and using DVD's and
Blu ray players. There is no reason that apple and iTunes should restrict the
download of HD movies just because my Already digital video card won't play HD
movies on a platform that I don't use to watch movies on. Please forward this
email to someone in corporate as I am asking for an explanation that actually
makes sense.

Here is the Final responce with ITunes support... So, it seems intel along with Hollywood is causing this problem. Got to love copyright holders. Block this from pirates and oh what the hell, lets make it hard for legitimate general user to purchace stuff to.

content with your computer in the past and realize that you want to view the
items using your Apple TV. Steve, I completely understand your frustration and
apologize for any inconvenience that this is causing you.

Currently there are only a few studios that have imposed HDCP requirements on HD
content.

It is still working; download to iphone, sync to computer lol.

Looks like I just need an HDCP card. I had upgraded to an HDMI monitor but the card does not have and HDMI output and the DVI output doesn't bypass the HDCP.
