o I am swapping out the HDD in my 2011 Mini? but do I need that black tape that came around the stock drive, I ripped mine when taking it off of the original drive besides it does not stick well on the new HDD?

It keeps the dirt of the air intake off the PC board of a mechanical HDD and it has a little piece of tape to hold the connector. You can fashion something out of tape and some non-conductive plastic (don't use anti-static bags...)
On the other hand if you are putting in a SSD then you do not need it, just a piece of tape to hold the connector in place.
