HDD in lower optical bay is noisy

I've got a 2010 base quad and all the HD bays are full, so I got the OWC hard drive bracket for the lower optical bay and when I powered it up it got a lot noisier! So I took it out and tightened up all the screws but it made no difference. Then I just took it out altogether and the noise went away.

Is having a HDD in the lower optical bay going to be noisier or did I do something wrong? The HDD I'm using is a 1TB WD Caviar Black. Three of the four bays have the same 1TB Caviar Blacks and aren't nearly as noisy as putting it in the optical bay.

Some users complain about the noise of the Caviar Blacks in MP's. If you can't live with it, you'll need to find a way to dampen it (i.e. rubber mounts of some sort) or swap it out for another make/model that has a quieter noise level.

The OWC mount has rubber mounts on the part that connects it to the optical bay, but not on the screws that connect the HD to the bracket.

I have a WD Green in a bay, so perhaps I will try to swap out the Green to the optical bay and see how much noise there is...

Very noisy drives. I can hear one in bay 3 or 4 that's why it was pulled. Much better options available.

I put the Caviar Green in the optical bay and the extra noise is gone. If only the Blacks were as quiet! Even if there are quieter drives out there I'm going to stick with the Blacks since they work just fine. In the future I'll look for quieter drives.

No probs. Be careful on Wd products. I've lost 2 blacks 1tb and a 2tb green over the last year. The samsung f4eg @ 2tb for $75 rocks.
