HDMI 1.4 Ultrawide Support?

Hi all,

I'm looking to upgrade to the 2013 Mac Pro later this year, and I've been eyeing the Dell UltraSharp 29 U2913WM. I'm figuring that with the FirePro's being able to pump out 4K and HDMI 1.4 being able to match that, that using this monitor with a resolution of 2560x1080 with the new Mac Pro would be a piece of cake. I've read in this and other forums that older OS's and GPU's can't run 2560x1080 through past iterations of HDMI because it's restricted to 1920x1080, but I'm assuming that with the Firepro's, Mavericks, and HDMI 1.4, it should all work. Am I right to assume this?

I know this question has been answered all over the internet in the past with HDMI 1.3 or DisplayPort, but could anybody verify if my thoughts are correct or not?

I was wondering about this too.. my U2711 has HDMI.. hopefully the nMP is using 1.4b.. my concern is the refresh rates. It will support up to 4K ultra res.. but i think its only like 24/25/30p. Most monitors are running 60-120hz.

HDMI 1.4 only supports 4K at 30Hz max....I do not know why they did not include HDMI 2.0 on a cutting edge system that does not ship for months.

Yeah, 4K sounds like a little trouble... Ultrawide isn't 4K, though, so I'm still assuming that 2560x1080 would be fine. Right???

Perhaps 4K-hopefuls will have to stick to Thunderbolt.

2560 x 1080 should be fine via Mini Display port to Display port adapter out of one of the TB ports.

Thanks theSeb. I feel pretty dumb right now, not realizing Thunderbolt and Mini Displayport are the same... I guess I got caught up in all the new tech that I forgot what already exists. lol
