HDMI Adapter - Full Screen Video On 1080p TV Slightly Stuttery

When I connect my laptop to my TV via the HDMI adapter, full screen video is slightly stuttery. It'll play smooth then every 3 secs there'll be a slight stutter, which is far more severe in fast moving scenes.

If I use my laptop display, everything is fine. I turned down the resolution of the TV from 1080p to 720p, and it helped a little, or at least it appeared so.

Happens on all resolution of video.

That is correct most jitter you see is due to the tv incorrectly scaling the refresh rate to another one. cinemotion, smooth vision, every tv brand has it;s own name for it, tell us the make and model and we may be able to tell you how to fix it.

It's a Sony TV, going in via a Yamaha RX-471 amp. I turned off MotionFlow when I first plugged it in as I assumed it was the cause of stutters too, but it didn't fix anything. The stutters are actually more consistent now because there is no MotionFlow (that was probably helping smooth it out to an extent).

The stutters are slight and happen every 0.5s and are very noticeable during fast moving scenes. If I drag the the window over to my Mac it is perfectly fine.

It isn't just video files, seems to be anything that is viewed on my TV won't be smooth when things move. If I drag a window across the screen, I can see the stutter happen like in video files.

What refresh rate is your TV set to?

Set it to 60Hz, tried 50Hz too but no improvement.

I researched a bit more and seems that the Sony Bravia's "Film Mode" is causing the problem. I've turned it off and things are much better, but they still aren't as smooth as hooking the display up via VGA.
