I know this is a really stupid question, but I just bought an Apple TV and I'm planning on simply plugging an HDMI cable from the Apple TV to my TV. My question is this: do I also need the optical audio cable? I don't have a home theater system and I just use my TV's speakers. Does this mean I only need the HDMI? Thanks.

hdmi should be fine, unless your tv doesn't support hdmi audio.

Yes, just need to use an HDMI cable for what you are doing. The optical out is a great fallback if you had a more complicated setup that ran through a device that didn't support HDMI audio (older receievers, some HDMI switchboxes, etc.).

Yes, just an HDMI cable
But don't pay any ridiculous premium prices
They are all the same

Search the net or Amazon
You can find them for pennies and pay only shipping
