Greetings again!
I am new to HDMI as I'm putting together my first digital home theater. (feel free to welcome me to the 21st century, but I've never fully needed one until now)
I'm accustomed to RCA's & running them back & forth for audio needs.
Now, certainly HDMI's are a different beast. I understand they handle both audio & video signals, but this now has me trying to wrap my head around the audio part of receiving the sound from my devices.
I haven't thought about this much/read fully my receiver manual yet, but my question is:
I run my HDMI's out from each video device to my tv, & then what do I need to do to get the audio back into my receiver?
Is it automatically doing both?
-Or is it through the audio return channel?
I'm hoping I can get just one HDMI to do that, but I guess it seems too good to be true!
(I'm not sure I fully understand that input/output, but it requires a compatible tv.)
Can someone describe its function?
If that way works, are the results the same as using RCA's?
Or is it better the old fashioned way?
Because they handle both signals, I'm hoping I don't have to break the bank to buy multitudes of L & R cables again...
Yes, the quality ones. Again.
Mind you, I have a THX certified receiver w/all the THX speaker wires & THX HDMI cables to make this nice, lol. (Panasonic VT50 65" plasma too)
Now I'm embarrassed I posted this, as I USED to know how to do this stuff, certainly not on a professional level, but getting basic home theaters together anyhow.
Thanks for bothering!
