HDMI out on lastest Mac Mini update could mean HDMI in/out on next iMac update?

In all the mayhem over the iPhone 4, Apple quietly updated the Mac Mini with a Aluminum case, along with some spec bumps, and some output jacks. The feature that caught my attention is the HDMI out port Apple added. This is the first time an HDMI port, in or out has been on a mac as far as I know. This gives me hope that we just might start to see HDMI ins and outs on some of the upcoming macs.

Which brings me to my point, I am patiently waiting for the next iMac update, which I am hoping has an HDMI in. I am a college student and enjoy gaming on my spare time, own an xBox 360, but lack an HDTV. I hope to kill two purchases with one buy, spending my very hard earned cash on a powerful computer (Enough power for Max Settings in the upcoming Diablo 3 and StarCraft 2 PC Games) and an HDTV for my xBox 360.

The addition of an HDMI-out on the Mac Mini, could point to an acceptance by Apple that HDMI is in fact here to stay, and is still growing as the standard for displaying HD content. Let me know what you guys think.
 
Apple would have to add it and keep Mini DisplayPort as HDMI cannot carry analog signal thus it doesn't support displays with VGA for example, still many people with them. Doubt it would be in/out, just out as Apple thinks that people will only hook their other Macs thus Mini DisplayPort is the only port for that.

Wouldn't bet my money on HDMI though
 
I know it's a long shot, I don't see why they care why people are buying their products though. If someone is buying an iMac to only use it as a display, the profits they see don't change :confused:. I would even settle for a bi-directional mini display port on the 21 inch, seeing as it can support 1080p. Either that or Macgyver the 27 to support 1080p, so the HDMI to mini display port adapters can be used to their fullest.
 
i don't pretend to know a tonne about the tech involved, but i'm under the assumption that the gpus used in macs can manage at most 2 outputs. that means 1 for the internal display and one for an external. displayport is more versatile than hdmi as already pointed out, so apple will maintain that.

whether or not a refresh would have a dedicated hdmi in for the display is another matter. could be useful.

ATI 54xx supports up to 4 independent displays and ATI 56xx, 57xx and 58xx support up to 6 individual displays due Eyefinity technology (those are mobile GPUs of course)
 
I think it's a safe bet you'll see an HDMI port in next iMac-- but only an HDMI out.
 
Really? I honestly don't think a HDMI serves any purpose for the iMac. It's a lower resolution than Displayport and why would anyone want to put his/her iMac next to a tv? If hdmi would ever be included, it sure would be HDMI IN, so an xBox or PS3 can be attached. But i don't think that will ever happen; no hdmi.
