I don't understand this issue. There's an HDMI port, and there's a mini HDMI cable, connected. What's the purpose of the HDMI port if I cannot use the 2021 MBP as a display (...yet)?
There isn't even any recognition of connectivity. Whuh?

The point is that you use the HDMI port to connect your Mac to another display. You can't use it as an extra display for your camera. It's just not supported, and this is not a Mac thing specifically, I'm not sure there are any laptops that provide the functionality you describe.

The HDMI ports on the camera and the Mac are purely for output. You may be able to use a USB connection and Canon’s remote shooting software to get a view of what the camera is seeing, but it won’t be full frame rate and quality.
