HDMI to DVI- adaptor or cable - Distance?

I would like to connect my 3rd gen Mac Book Pro to a TV via HDMI. Mainly for showing others what is on my screen for like presentations. I DO NOT require AUDIO.

Question is should I get an adapter that turns my DVI to a HDMI and then a HDMI cable or a cable that does that by itself. What produces better quality or is it the same?

What is the distance I may go with HDMI to DVI without losing any quality?

What brands do you recommend for this or alternative methods of hooking my TV up to my MBP.

I bought a 10 meter DVI to HDMI 24 gauge for 39.50. The on-line store is one I have found extremely competitive across the entire spectrum of computer and audio/video uses.

The longest DVI/HDMI cable I remember seeing was 50'. I have never studied the specs, and do not know if that is the limit, or not. As far as signal degradation, I can only say that the quality was very good with this cable.

other than the fact that you have a MBP there is absolutely no reason this needs to be in the MBP forum. Try and respect the actual topics and don't just post in the forum where the most people happen to be.

Oh sorry, where should this go? I thought this would be a helpful thread for people with notebook computers and thus decided this was a good fit, although I didn't go through all the sub forums to see where it fit best, this was the forum that came to my mind.

The one I use (Just ordered a 15ft DVI to HDMI Cable---no adapter) is monoprice.com. The cable cost me $5 as opposed to $70+ at retail stores. Monoprice is awesome, cheap as hell, and ship their products ship really fast. I think it's better to do it in a cable as opposed to an adapter. Definitely check them out.

I bought a $10 gold plated cable at Amazon.com, I just looked up DVI-HDMI cable (make sure its DVI-D to work with your Macbookpro).

The thing to remember is that you do not have to buy any brand or any particular make with digital cables (stay FAR FAR away from Monster Cables, rip offs) because Digtal signals are always the same so there is never any signal loss. Either digital cables work, or they dont, so all of this "Monster Cables are shielded" is bull.

Find a generic brand, get whatever length you need. Although I am not sure if anything exists past 12 feet (it very well might), anyway best of luck.

You don't have to get gold-plated...

As with digital cables, it either works or not (1's and 0's). There is no need to make sure that a connection end is gold plated or not. It is not analog (which would require a gold connection for a good connection).
