I'm running 10.14.6 - HDR videos from the iPhone 12 are appearing washed out in the Photos app - this is just thumbnails though, the videos play fine. Is anyone else seeing this?

Good day. I have exactly the same issue.
Same weird color thumbnails.

Did some googling, dit not find an answer (there are some tricks to rebuild thumbnails for photos, but not for video apparently..

Also running 10.14.6 Mojave > new iphone 12

Problem will be that combo i guess?

It's a bug that has been fixed in 10.15 or 11, I can't remember. Anyway, there isn't much you can do on 10.14.

There isn't much you can do about that bug, clearly other things still work on 10.14 ;)

Sorry about my attempt at a joke Ritsuka

I have found that if the video gets dragged to the Desktop then 're-loaded' into Photos the thumbnail is then correct..

Interesting (to me) discoveries;

Changing the 'poster frame' like this - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8204077 the thumbnail corrects itself for about two seconds then becomes replaced by the iCloud version with the crazy colours.
(The cloud symbol appears in place of the thumbnail momentarily showing this to be the case)

Having checked my iCloud account in a browser, the thumbnails are perfect there ??‍♂️

Soo, the glitch/bug manifests when (and only when) the video thumbnail is downloaded to the Mac from iCloud.
Adding the video from the Desktop sends the correct thumbnail to iCloud and all is well.

Dragging to the Desktop will reencode the video to SDR, and you will lose the HDR and some video quality.
