Late last night, I'm using my main desktop (which is a 5 year old Win XP - SP2 tower box) at my basement desk area and its IE 8 starts acting wierd. It starts doing other weird things as well. For example, "lockups for 10-20 seconds", then it starts acting normally again. Then, I finally found the root cause of the problem. Its large D: "data drive" (which is its 2nd physical drive) went for a dump. I can see its drive letter but its now physically dead. Luckily, I backed up my system 1 months ago. So, not too much data was lost. Luckily, email (on its C: drive) is still ok and any data files stored on its desktop folders are ok as well.
Now... I'm "on the hunt" for a new computer - since replacing its data drive isn't financially worth it... Was hoping to get a replacement iMac 21.5" i5 model this Christmas. Now, I'll use the "back to school" excuse for a new computer purchase. But still, its timing to crash does suck!!!
Word to the wise... Remember to perform regular backups - regardless of one's platform. Especially your most critical data files. Lesson learned the hard way...
Hope this warning helps others...
