Ok so this is rather strange. Every now and then when i plug in my headset into my iPhone 3G and leave it for a while and then pull it out.. automatically my iPod starts playing loud out the speakers. was at work and it blasted real loud.. No I was not listening to music or recieveing a call.. i simply just had it plugged in.. any thoughts..

I took it back and had another one given to me but it still does it.. just not as often.. Im getting tired of loading all my stuff back into the phone..

it couldnt happen.. i dont understand how it could happen... i assume you play the music...somehow and so when you unplug the earphone, music came out loud... if that happens again, you should go to apple store and exchange it...

oh! Trust me it happens... I got a replacement and I activated it inside the store.. walked out .. Stuck the headset in pulled it out and the little play icon appeared in the home screen.. There was no music loaded so it didn't play.. It just launched the iPod.. With the message no music.. It happens less frequently on the replacement so I'll just try and be content...

Yep. It definately used to just randomly start playing the ipod when I unplugged a headphone plug. I connect mine to my car stereo and am constantly plugging, and unplugging it evertime I get in and out of the car.

The iphone definitely knows when something's being plugged in. If the screen is dark, and you plug something in, it wakes it up. I don't understand why it can't just be a straight output. The fact that it is some sort of "smart" headphone jack is the reason it's screwing up.

But I swear I haven't had this problem at all since 2.0.1. And I have not upgraded to 2.0.2 yet.

I've had this happen on some external speakers where you would bump the connection and the player would stop or start or just do it's own thing. my theory was that the connector was hitting the contact for the "third ring" on the original headset. The one for the button to answer calls or start/stop music. If the contact was hit just right by a non original (or even the original) heasdset, I could see that contact being hit just right and tripping it as though you had pushed the button on the headset. That's was my thought anyway.
