Headless iMac ?

Wondering if buying my new iMac now or wait ... wait until January or March?

Well in January Apple will surely present some new products but looking at Buyer's guide the milestone for new releases about iMac is MArch.

The speed and charateristics of current iMac are enough for me, I'm wondering if wait only to see if Apple will release a headless iMac how that could be true ?

wait or buy now since iMac are just updated?

Apple has two headless macs in its current lineup: the Mini and the Mac Pro. Introducting a mid-range monitorless mac any time soon is extremely unlikely. The current lineup is relatively new. It will be bumped roughly twice a year, every six months.

Ooo headless as in no screen? Well a headless iMac is basically a MacMini (although the mini only has Core Duo, not Core 2 Duo like the iMac).

There was a reason Apple made the cube and it was a big hole in the line up. That Hole is still there. If you look at HP or Dell both offer lots of midrange options without monitors. Apple has 0, NOTHING, ZILCH, Apple needs something better then Mini less then workstation MacPro that has a pci slot, and No monitor. The iMac is great for many but isnt for many others.

I have decided to wait and see what Apple does at the next expo and if they dont come up with something Ill be buying a Vista Mid range PC. Dell XPS210 or HP's Slimeline are attractive and have that missing Pci slot that can hold a low profile video card. Big step up from any integrated graphics. Plus both offer some CPU choices without the old forcing this and that on the buyer. Come on Apple.

Vista < Mac OS X . Its such a copy its unbelivable. Even PC fanboys are saying its rubish!

True, but HP and Dell sell a lot more computers than Apple and can afford more product lines. They also face more direct competition, which forces them to offer more variety. True a lot of us would love to see a mid-range headless mac, but I don't think it will happen until Apple believes that they can make serious inroads into corporate/business sales. For consumers, they want us to buy the iMac precisely for the same reason we don't want to buy it (they get to sell us a built-in screen as well). Once we start seeing articles about corporations wanting to buy macs to replace their Dells and HPs for people outside the graphics department, the mid-range headless mac will quickly appear.

You're right about the hole. Apple could do what you suggest. But do you think they will? They're pretty savvy marketers, so I suspect they've figured that they're better off offering the iMac with a built-in monitor than offering what would essentially be an upgraded mac mini that might have some easier expansion. Presumably they've figured that the mid-range market really doesn't need upgrades or want upgrades, so they're better off offering the imac. I can't say I disagree. The only downside to the current iMac is that when the computer gets too old, you're also tossing a monitor that could keep on living. But given where the price of monitors has been going, how many people keep their old monitor with a new computer? I'm guessing some, but a low percenta.ge
