Headphone/Earbud Question --

Sorry, I meant to post this thread in this section.

I need advice on a nice pair of headphones/earbuds. I would love to have pro earbuds such as the Etymotic Research ER-6 Isolator Earphones because they are small just like an iPod so I can throw them in my pocket or whatever.

If there are no decent earbuds then I might check out the common, large, over-the-head headphones because I'm sick of the cheapo Apple earbuds that come with the iPods. They are pretty bad.

So have any of you guys had any experience with the Etymotic Research ER-6 Isolator Earphones? I'm going on a trip and I need some nice sound isolating earbuds for the trip.

I had the ER-6i earphones (currently selling them actually), and I now have the Shure E5c earphones. The Shures are WORLDS better, but are also quite a bit more expensive.

The e2c earbuds ($100) seem nice. $100 is around what I was thinking about. $200 or more is out of the question at the moment. Thanks for your nice opinions.

People say that the Etymotic's have cleaner sound, but I think it's due to the lack of Bass. You really can't go wrong with either, buy both at a store that accepts returns.

I have the Shure e3 earbuds and absolutely love them. They're expensive, but the e2c models can be found for as low as $65 online retail.

I chose the Shures over the Etymotics firstly because the cables were much thicker; I was afraid I'd snap the ety's wires in two. I have no worries about the strength of my Shure's cables. Also, the Shures are worn around the top of your ears. This relieves tension off of your ear canal and prevents the buds from falling out.

i like the er6i over the e2c and the e3c. they're on sale at amazon now for $90 shipped. however, any of these will be way better than the apple earbuds so you can't go wrong.

it's true that the shure e4 and e5 series sound better, as does the etymotic er4p and er4s...but they're much more expensive as well. the differences between all these high-end 'phones come down to individual preferences, as they're all pretty good. but in order to get the most out of these good 'phones, you need good recordings. if you're listening to 128 mp3/aac files, the e2c, e3c, and er6i are more than adequate.
