So, today I unplugged my headphones and found that the optical audio seemed to be on although I don't know why. I'm not sure if I hit some keys on accident and turned it on and what not. I'm curious if anyone knows how to get my macbook to switch back over to the internal audio speakers and not the optical audio. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've seen mention of people having their jack get "stuck" in headphone mode. Maybe try sticking the headphone plug back in and wiggling it gently?

Yep - this is an issue on my MacBook Pro. Apparently its to do with the joint optical/analog audio card. You can fix it by plugging in/plugging out any headphones.

In the system preferences, it just tells me optical output.

I tried restarting the 'ol Macbook Pro, putting the headphones back in and taking them out, leaving them in for about 10 minutes and then removing, wiggling the headphone around gently but I just can't get it to turn off which is actually really frustrating. Anyone have any other thoughts or suggestions short of bringing it to a Apple store?

Thanks for the suggestions guys.
