My daughter has one of those cassette things she uses to connect her iPhone to the car stereo, and today when she pulled out the "headphone" part of it from her iPhone 3G, the tip broke off inside the phone. It still works, but she has to use the speaker for phone conversations.

We took it to the Apple Store tonight, one of the genius bar guys took it in back for a few minutes, came back out and said, "sorry." He couldn't get it out with tweezers, and said they are not equipped and do not have the time to do more. The phone was purchased the day the 3Gs first went on sale, so it is out of warranty. We are going to a different Apple Store tomorrow, and hope they might be a little more helpful.

A couple of questions....

1) I tried to remove the tip with tweezers too, but there is really nothing to grab on to, it seems. Any suggestions as to something else that might work?

2) I have a Square Trade warranty on this phone, including the provision for accidental damage. I would assume something like this would be covered, but I'm not sure. Would anyone happen to know?

Thanks much!

Too risky, except as a last resort. I've tried that with other stuff to little success. Then you send it in for the warranty and they find super glue all over it... but thanks for the suggestion.

I am not sure if the headphone tip would be magnetized, but under the slight chance that it is, try connecting a magnet to the other end of the tweezers (if they are metal) and if I remember correctly from Physics a few years ago, then the tweezers should be magnetized as well. If everything works right and if the tip of the headphones is able to be grabbed by a magnet then this might work.

Ehh... I don't think this would work but spank the headphone part out of it. :D Ok but seriously, wouldn't they be able to give you a replacement?

Magnet won't work. This baby is really in there.

We are hoping they will give a replacement... otherwise it is on to Square Trade...

2nd Apple Store couldn't fix and gave replacement phone... as it should be....
