I use Strava to log my rides and enjoy using my watch to get a quick glance at distance/avg speed during rides. One thing that I find lacking is the heart rate, sometimes it will just say measuring during the entire glance. After the ride the data is not very accurate with sometimes only 5 measurements taken on a 20+ mile ride.

I would like to add a heart rate chest strap to get continuous measurements during my rides. My Q's are...

1. What is a best option to work with the watch? Wahoo tickr, etc...
2. Will the Strava watch app show the chest strap HR on the screen during my rides?

Thanks!

I have the Wahoo Tickr that I use with both my Garmin and my watch/phone.

Note that while you can pair a device with your watch, you'll actually probably want to pair it with your phone, which will then allow you to see your HR data displayed on the watch, unless you intend on leaving the watch at home. Many apps won't receive HR data if you pair it with the watch directly.

Update: I purchased the Wahoo Tickr from the Apple store during my lunch break. I synced the Tickr with my watch. I did a quick walk with Strava on the watch and the reading on the screen is from the chest strap!

Yeah this is really the best solution for anyone who wants accurate, continues HR readings.

A polar H7 also works a treat, the heart rate reading becomes much quicker to react.

This is actually a bug with the strava app and they haven't even attempted to fix it. I use cyclemeter on the watch, tens times better and records your HR very accurately. The data then syncs with strava afterwards. To be honest, Im not a huge fan of strava, there website changes my calories burnt to suit their algorithm which is way out! I wish i could turn this off somewhere.

The accuracy of the HR monitor on the apple watch is excellent, I tested the accuracy of my wife apple watch whilst she was in labor, and it was within a heart beat of the hospital machine. So you probably don't need a belt unless your also weight training.
