So with all the reading here about issues with the new imac, i was wondering, what are kinda normal temperatures and fanspeed for the new imacs. I have a 24" 2.4 imac. so anyone else wants to post his stats. This is my result for just doing some easy internet:

temp:
cpu: 36° C
mac hd: 42° C
gpu diode: 49° C

fan speed:
cpu and hard disk, both 1200rpm

and my computer is for 46 minuts on.

so anyone else has some stats to compare?

Man you're computer is COOL.

mine spends a lot of time at 47C CPU idle, 82C power supply idle, 58C HDD idle. But no lock ups due to heat.

700 rpm optical, 1200 rpm cpu, 1200rpm hdd is the idle fan speeds.

Mine is more like yours.

CPU heatsink- 45
GPU diode- 60
HDD- 58
Airport card- 64
Power Supply- 72C

fans were at 700, 1200, 1800rpm

Finally! Someone with close to the same temps as me, I thought for sure I had something wrong with mine.

hmm. mine's pretty warm as well.
CPU - 44
GPU - 56
HDD - 54
Airport card - 59
Fans - 700, 1200, 1200 (jumps around a little)

It appears that iMac temps are quite similar to the MBP.

And that makes perfectly good sense too, cause the iMac is built like a laptop or a tablet PC.

I am getting the feeling that these iMacs that are running about 10C warmer in the power supply may be related to the 750GB HDD. Doesn't really worry me at this point.

I believe that if heat was going to cause problems with the power supply, it definitely would have cause permanent problems by now. Don't you think?

No, more likely it would just shorten the life of the imac. Power supplies tend to have capacitors in them (or at least they did when I worked in electronics repairs a few years back), and capacitors tend to 'wear out' a lot faster when they get hot. Capacitors failing was a common cause of power supply failure when I was repairing them.

I have a 2.8 too, so let's hope that the temperatures are well within what apple designed for.

How do you know?

What program do you use to find out the temps?

I went ahead and bumped up my fan speeds a bit to bring my temps down to the lower levels that have been posted.

OD-1200/HDD-2000/CPU-1500rpm

CPU Heatsink- 41C
GPU Diode- 52C
HDD- 56C
Power Supply- 61C
Airport- 55C

what do you us to scope the temps and to adjust the fan speeds please... thanks.
