Other Heavily into the Apple ecosystem, how would things be if I got rid of my iPhone

Currently have the XS Max and thinking about returning it (either for the XS or Galaxy Note 9). I want the Apple Watch S4 but would be giving that up with the Note 9.

Has anyone else here gotten rid of your iPhone but had all other products Apple? Currently have the iPad (2017), Macbook Pro 15'' (2018), Airpods and Apple TV.

I had the s8+ and the gear s3 frontier. Along with Apple TVs and an iPad. Ultimately went back to iPhone because Samsung’s customer service sucks and iPhone is just a better experience, for me at least.

First, I miss iMessage.

Second, Android is not as fluent and as fluid as even iOS11, iOS 12 simply blow the X out of water.

Third, the Apps...really not as high quality as most iOS app...

Fourth, I couldn’t connect with my iPad, MacBook Pro, iMac anymore. I feel disconnected.

Fifth, no iCloud. I miss it. Yeah, as much as I love Google Drive’s flexibility, after using the LG G7, I realized that iCloud is still better.


So I attempted, I failed...ok....I am happy with my Xs Max now, though I am not too happy with the receptiongate and chargegate issues ...but overall the phone experience is still superior over the LG G7.

Thanks. Yeah, I feel like now I'm stuck unless Apple really drops the ball at some point. I like the XS Max but feels a bit heavy. Might just take some getting used to. Also got slightly jealous of my coworker bringing in his Note 9 (I had a note 3 before). But I always hated the unpolished...disconnected feeling of Android (and I used Cyanogen mod a lot back in the day).

That pretty much echoes my experience. I’ve tried a Pixel XL, Galaxy S8+, and a Note 8, and I still prefer iOS primarily for the reasons you mentioned. I still have the Note 8, but I wish that I’d managed to return it in time.

I’ve switched between Apple and android many times. Always run right back to Apple. Yeah galaxy phones are great. But touch wiz is nothing short of terrible. Good luck on the next android update on a galaxy phone. Android has no real eco system really.

I have the XS Max and the Note 9 unlocked version. It’s an amazing device all the way around. I am a chronic flip flopper when it comes to my devices. I’ll use the N9 for a week then go back to the Max. I’m just a lover of technology. Each one does something I really like. If you chose to switch to it, you won’t regret it. I’ve had every iPhone since the 2g. It was released on my birthday in 2007. Even though I use an android phone, I will always have a Apple device as a back up.

I'd say to buy a s8 and see if it's a device and OS you would like to switch over permanently to. U will definitely miss your iPhone if u that invested into Apple.

I've went to the dark side for about 3 years and I was so glad to get an iPhone. For me having everything work together and being part of the ecosystem with the phone just makes it even better. You can certainly do it and it's not terrible.. but it's a pain in the butt and I don't recommend it. I just wish the Max I had didn't have issues because I would have kept it 100%. I am now considering the XR, but in reality am hopeful that Apple will release something to say what is up with the XS and XS Max that would allow me to perhaps buy it again. Never going back to Android unless Apple folds and that isn't likely to happen.

It's easy to get "bored" of Apple devices or envious of what others have. But, I completely agree with this. The best part of the Apple ecosystem is that everything works together so well. If you're fully invested in the ecosystem, including Mac/iPad/iCloud/etc, it's just pointless to get an Android device. They're not so far superior (or superior at all) that it's worth sacrificing how well all your Apple devices integrate with one another.

What is the point to even think about another phone if you already have airpods and want to get an apple watch?

However, i have used both (+windows) so many years, but still i cant see much difference between using an iphone or an android phone that comes to ”the ecosystem”. There is nothing i do with my iphone that needs a macbook or ipad or apple tv to be connected together. I dont have apple watch. icloud? No, the tiny space, 5gb, is always full - and i use google drive and NAS for that kind of things anyway. Those are much better services too. imessage? No one uses it here, people use other services...

You need to ask from yourself for what reason you need an iphone and is there, really, something that needs you to use your iphone with other products. If you get an apple watch, then the iphone is the only solution.

I really enjoy Android phones but I love how my new series 4 Apple Watch works and looks too much to drop iOS altogether.

I gave it a real try and didn’t like the wearables situation on Android as much. As a woman, I felt underserved by their rather oversize offerings—unless I was willing to switch from watches to fitness bands. Which I did try. And I liked that option but then I saw the gold stainless series 4 Apple Watch and that was it. I knew I was going to be with Apple another couple of years.

Where I feel it falls apart for me personally in the United States and my particular region is the opportunity to get proper customer service for Android phones. My only recourse when there is a problem is either through a carrier store or dealing with customer service exclusively via text (Google) or email (Google and sometimes Samsung) or a clogged 800 customer service number (Samsung). I don’t find any of those options as streamlined and satisfactory as dealing with my local Apple Store. Even though I feel customer service is falling a bit at my local Apple store it’s all still much better than the other options.

I think the Apple ecosystem is overrated. But that's simply because I use maybe one or two services and could do without them.

A lot of the services Apple offers or 'features' they have on the iPhone I either do not use, am not interested in, or really wish Apple would get rid of. For the rest, I long ago went with third party services.

I came to iPhone from Windows Mobile and my first shock was encountering the limitations Apple imposes on you. So, I jailbroke my iPhone and have continued to do so. It's allowed me to have iOS, but make it work the way I want it to.

But a lot of people use what Apple offers so if that continues to work for you then stick with it. But here's the thing. A lot of third party services work on iPhone. Some may not be as good as Apple's solution, but a lot of them are equivalent if not some times better. Some existed before Apple and Apple just improved on them.

I think though that a lot of people who try to leave Apple for Android return simply because the way Apple does things aligns with how they wish to work. There's no issue with that, it's just a matter of choice. What I do works for me because I don't do things the same way as others.

Use what works best for you.

Not that bad actually I go back and forth with Android I have iPad Pro and MacBook Pro. Just have to get that right programs. But as far as difficulty it’s not hard

android as a platform is not attractive to me. but google as a service and app provider to me was interesting to explore. i thought google as a device and app and operating system single integrated supplier could do it all (going with Huawei or other device makers is not interesting at all and the worst of all worlds since its the integration of the devices and services that is what we seek).

i was tempted to go all in with google. since they have great apps. and gmail is really close to being perfect.
one of the factors was maps. living outside of the USA means that most of the countries i visit apple map is the worst option.
but where google was just not able to get it together was messaging.
i travel weekly and i needed a way for people to message me no matter what SIM card i had in and it was just too difficult to accomplish.

so i have stayed with apple's services.
haven't regretted it since on top of it all apple Music is so nicely integrated as a part of apple ID/iCloud services.

one factor that i love is that the macOS platform devices and iOS tablets and notebooks are so nicely able to be totally integrated into iCloud is important for me. apple ID as an integrating factor across all these devices and services is hugely important.

for me, therefore the largest overall encompassing factor in staying with apple is the speed and frequency that updates are pushed out for both security and bugs in the context of an integrated iCloud/apple ID system across 2 platforms.

staying with apple is really driven by:

1 google being weaker than apple in messaging
2 google being weaker in security and bugs updates
3 google's offering in its pixel book was not strong enough to replace either iPad or something like a MacBook Air

lastly, but still important:
4 being stuck using Office Word, Excel, Powerpoint hell
Pages, Numbers, and Keynote are so much more elegant and allow me more control.

but, as i said, its the appleID/iCloud across platforms and devices that is the driving factor.
it took apple about a decade to get it this far.
i'm happy their products and integrated systems, as its really working well for me.

I absolutely hate the way the display curves down the side on note 9... it is so distracting to me. Also in my opinion Samsung rolling out a new device with an old version of Android in hopes of getting the latest and greatest which is usually months and months away and you get 1 and if you are luck 2 updates... THAT ALL FOLKS! No thank you! Generally if you buy a new iOS device, you will get updates for 4 or 5 years in some cases. Apple stands by what they sale.. Google and Samsung it's a nightmare to deal with them. You pay more for Apple, but you get what you pay for in this case.

Pages, Numbers, and Keynote are so much more elegant and allow me more control.

I don't doubt these are more elegant than the Office suite.

But I have multiple versions of Adobe InDesign between work and home. Pages seems very limited to me and actually more like Microsoft Publisher. QuarkXPress is better as well. And Affinity has released Affinity Publisher to beta (finally).

Of course, these may be overpriced and overqualified for what you're doing. But I'm a Graphic Designer by trade so I tend to use these tools.

it really depends on what features you feel you absolutely need to work between the devices.

i have a note and a macbook pro. the only thing that was important to me was ability send links, pics, files back and forth and ability to be notified of texts/emails back and forth. pushbullet will do that. also the ability to directly access my phone wirelessly and drag drop any file off of it was cool.

I find it very useful to make and answer phone calls on my iPad or Mac. I just use whatever is most convenient. I would miss that. Notifications on my apple watch also saves me from stopping to look at my phone when busy as well.

That’s why I originally left the Galaxy family. The updates stopped suddenly. It was annoying
