 You heard right, my G3 iMac/333 is a retard. It seems that CDs are not it's freind, PC made CDs that is. I burnt some mp3s on a CD usin a PC and tried to transfer them to this iMac. Well I put the CD in and it sounded like it was checking every possible file that existed in it. It wasn't showin up on the desktop (Mac OS 9.2 btw) at the time cuz it was still lookin through all 150 mp3s before it decided that the PC CD was worthy enough to be displayed on it's OS. So I ate some dinner took a shower and by the time I came back to it, it was finally mounted and ready to transfer. But good lord!!!! 30 minutes??? (I had spare time) The System Installer CD I have doesn't have these problems. I pop that CD in and it's mounted in 10 seconds. So there's probably some issue here with non-Mac CDs. Where do I go from here?

When you use the devil's equipment (the PC) you can't expect anything to go easy. Get rid of that thing, and never use it again.

Sometimes, burners just don't like certain media.

You might want to try burning those CDs on different branded blanks.

I know, I know. I gotta get me a cd burner for my precious. But the thing that really gets me is, my beige G3 doesn't have any beef with reading the same CD, yet this iMac here refuses to acknowledge such unacceptable media. :(

G3 iMac/333 ????

Well Yeah, of course using the iMac G3/333 is being somewhat retarded. The new iMac is Intel Core Duo which is far cry from the iMac 333 made in what year??? oh let see, is it late 1999. The technology is over 6 YEARS OLD. You might as well invest in a NEW Apple Computer. You can do all sorts of things with the newer Apple Computer.

The Apple SuperDrive is far superior than any of these CD burners. Give me a break. Oh I must think about trying a different brand CD. It really doesn't matter. They are all just the same. I have burn musics and datas on CDs and DVDs. Cheap brand of course. They work GREAT!!!!

C'mon you need to think about getting a better Apple Computer. I think that your original post is somewhat RETARDED to even start talking about how you can not do certain things with the OLD CD player from an OLD iMac G3/333 (very slow and outdated technologies). :-0

gawd zeppo don't make me feel retarded as well :( I can't hustle money like you can. This iMac that I have is just gonna be for linux. I got a better Sawtooth 800 comin my way. While it might no be a an Intel it's way better than any other mac I have owned. I've been workin my way up in the mac world. In the very beginning I was workin with a 64080 chip, then a 603e, then G3s, now a soon to come G4. I'm just trying to catch up on all the history of Apple since I have some money now to purchase lower end macs. :D

to the OP: just get a different CD brand, and if you can think about getting a PPC mini or an Intel mini, to be up with todays standards, but if your G3 does every thing you throw at it, keep it and just do what you gotta do to on it. :)

First thought: Guys, let's be mature here. We don't want to be like, well, Mac users :) Also, beating someone as a child will not cause it to become retarded. It may cause the child to have severe psychological disorders though. Mental retardation comes most usually from birth.

Okay, with that out of the way...

Second thought: Is your iMac the slot-loading drive one or does it have a tray-loading drive? Usually, slot-loading drives are picky about the brands of CD's and DVD's they use. Try using a different brand?

Well actually I got the tray loading kind. But I will go with ya'lls advice and experiment with different brands. Whenever I find the right one I'll holla back and spread the good news.

iMac is retarted

Believe you me. I know where you're coming from.
Although I have a new 20" iMac and a upgraded and maxed out MDD G4.
I also still have my trusty PB 1400 and an PM 8600.:D
I have not always be able to afford a new Mac as in the case of my iMac and started out as you are now.
May I suggest that you buy an external burner. That way it will accomplish your task and still be useful whenever you get a different computer.:D
Of course your G3 will still be retarted compared with todays Mac. But what the hey !!! You do the best you can with what you've got...
PowerMax is one source that I've used in the past. There are other sources that you can find by doing a search on the internet.
Have a good day.:)

I finally got it to work. Slower burning speeds (16x), Memorex brand CDs and a transfer of the System Folder from my beige G3 seemed to do the trick. It's always a great feeling to get stubborn technology to work with ya. Now I'm installing Yellow Dog 4.1 and I'm cruisin smoothly now, thanks ya'll for the input. And Macitis, thanks for the support man. We are the few and the proud obsolete Mac users.
