OS X Hello need help [copyright-free Mac games]

Hi everyone,

I'm pretty much brand new to using a Mac, other than when I would

sometimes use my roommate's Mac back in the day.


Could someone tell me if there are any copyright-free Mac games anywhere

that I could buy for cheap or download (entertaining ones if possible) ?


As of right now, I have 10.6.8 but will upgrade to Newest OS X as soon as possible...


so games for either version of OS X would be very appreciated.

Even free games can have some form of copyright by the original authors for at least one aspect of a game, what exactly do you mean by "copyright free" and out of curiosity whats the reason for it?

I want to record them while I play them and then post them on Youtube,

without anybody being able to come after me for copyright.


So either NO copyright whatsoever, or they have given the right to copy, use

and distribute in any way even if money is made off of it.

I don't think you'll have any issues recording your gameplay and upload it on youtube, for any game. There are gameplay videos on youtube made by gamers, for virtually every possible game out there.

These restrictions are applied to movies / songs uploads for obvious reasons.

I would be surprised if any games company would have copy right with gameplay videos, it's free publicity. Sony is even building an uploader into the next PS4 console!

The moment someone created something, they own the copyright.

I don't think you'll have any issues recording your gameplay and upload it on youtube, for any game. There are gameplay videos on youtube made by gamers, for virtually every possible game out there.

These restrictions are applied to movies / songs uploads for obvious reasons.

Some game companies don't want gamers to stream / post videos.

But most game companies are fine with people adding value to game play with commentaries. Just look at popular video services and see whether you find many videos about the games you want to post.

Actually there are quite a few companies which do not let you post gameplay videos, such as Nintendo. For others they require you to get permission first, then again others don't allow you to post videos that display adverts giving the uploader money. The ones that do let you often have various terms you need to abide by.

The bigger youtube channels which show gameplay videos are often part of affiliate networks which help to sort these problems out and allow them to get permission easier.

Reasons vary from stopping people making money from lets play videos, to not wanting play-throughs posted online which may spoil endings or cause people not to buy the game.

There are various lists of games/developers such as this one.

I'd probably have a look around at indie games that run on OSX, find a few you are interested in and then try to find out whether the developers are ok with you posting videos of their game. Check the fine print on the developers website first and if theres no information maybe email them.

Wasn't it Nintendo and Sega that went after some people for posting let's play videos of their games (in Segas case even some ancient Mega Drive games)?

But looking at youtube, you can even find full movies... I don't know how well companies track that stuff but I seriously doubt you would ever run into any actual legal issues. But who knows, if they are money hungry enough...

Youtube and companies scan titles, tags, and descriptions.

If you upload, youtube will also analyse your video, and music.

Sega, and Nintendo will auto send copyright claims if anything with their stuff pops up, especially if it's monetised. People like Total Biscuit have received some big issues from Sega, and is 1 strike away from losing his network( Polaris), and his channel.

Despite having licenses, and network protection for the vast majority of publishers, and developers.

It's not just Nintendo who protect's their IP's. It's a lot of Video Game companies. Probably ALL OF THEM!
