Hi guys ,
i am new here , i wanted to buy a mac pc , budget is not much of a problem , but still , i affording a full fledged G5 is too much !!

Anyway i am a student , going to do a B.E in Bioinformatics , my main usuage will be like using softwares like PERL , and all compilers on it so i dont want any problems

also , gaming is also there -- have heard that the Mac OS uses Open GL , so such games would run on it

compatibility -- internet connections in my university !!! i really dont know actually , with a PC filled world , internet connectiivity should not cause conflicts !!

And also -- shud i go for a desktop ? or a laptop ? , both are pretty portable

and finally , how safe is boot camp ? are normal hard drives , other spares easily comaptile with the mac ? ( the specific ones )

Um... I find it hard to believe you are a programmer. Either that or english isnt your first language.

You need to research the things you need and that you will be able to use those on the Mac. I dont think anyone here is going to really be able to help or tell you what to buy.

Considering an Intel Mac can run Windows, you software possibilites are endless. You can use whatever apps you need no matter what OS it requires.

Do some research.

Boot camp is fairly safe and will e more stable when leapordcomes out wiith the final version. As for desktop or portable id say since you are in college a portable would be nice, but for any gaming youll ned the macbook pros dedicated graphics card.
