Hi folks,

I'm so excited I received my 12 pro max in gold today. Been setting it up and playing with it all day. That is until later I decided to charge the phone, the device heats up really bad. Is this normal? What's going on? I'm using the little cord with the 20 watt charging brick.

Help!

Had mine since launch day. Was warm while charging last night. It’s pretty typical

Yeah, I would say give it 12-24 hours. After setting up mine, the back felt warm for a bit. Whole "indexing" thing, it's normal.

But it shouldn't be SO hot that you can't pick it up though.

I've actually had 0 problems with the week and a half I've been using MagSafe. Maybe it gets warm overnight, but I've found by the next morning, my phone isn't hot at all. Nothing really stands out.

As for mid-day charging, I've found I never needed it. The battery life through an entire day (8 AM - 1 AM), my battery holds crazy well. So guess I'm just in the minority of people - I actually like my MagSafe charging.

The OP does not use a wireless charger.

When I first set up my 12 Pro Max it got warm as it was downloading all my app/app data, pictures, messages, downloading music, etc. But that is normal. I didn’t charge it until the next day at work after everything was done

Yes. You're all right. It's probably busy doing something in the background.
After it got so hot. I stopped charging it. Restarted my iPhone, then start charging it again. The second time around, everything is normal.

I will give it a few days and observe.

So far I really love this phone! ???

Don’t be too alarmed, it will get warmer at some points while it is charging as it is Fast Charging, however the phone and battery are built to handle the heat and it will throttle down to manage the it as it goes.
