Help! 2007 iMac not working!

I have a 2007 iMac with 3gb ram(upgraded from 1gb) and a 1tb harddrive(upgraded from 250gb). Recently, it hasnt been working too well. Problems include:

Freezing when working in safari.
Very...Very! slow compared to out of the box
Weird displays: look at attached pic

I ran out of warranty two months ago so that is not an option.
What can I try? Is it a virus?

Ouch. That looks like your GPU chip has packed in, although the freezing may also indicate a problem with the temperature management. Can you post something from the About This Mac about the graphics?

That looks like it is probably a GPU/Logic Board issue.

Take it in to your local Mac store, but be prepared to hear some bad news.

Most likely you're looking at a logic board replacement, which for your model could run you anywhere from $500-800 possibly more.

^ +1 on the assessment above. Looks like a hardware repair is needed. Shop around the resellers though. You should be able to get the part cheaper than the official Apple price.

Yeah, it'll all depend on market price and such.

Go to www.blueraven.com and look up your particular computer to find some idea of what a logic board would cost.

its definitely some hardware issue,likely gpu or inverter and or logicboard on the way into the nirvana , you had apple care ,ok ran out 2 month ago ,but anyway bring it to your nearest apple store and with loads and loads of luck and if you are nicer to them then to any of your family members ,then there is a very very slim chance that they overlook these 2 month , but did i say you need to be more polite and nice and friendly then ever before in your life ,
if it doesn't work ....a repair will cost you likely the most of what a new imac will cost
but you just need to get it repaired as in that condition its not of any use for you
if you dont get apple to repair it , then you best and cheapest option is look at ebay for one with other issues but no graphic issues and make one out of two , sometimes you get cheaper ones which have optical and haerddrive removed , or one with a broken display but are otherwise working
