Here's the deal.. I was driving today and all of a sudden my phone just stopped working.. I saw a notification saying I should restore my phone or contact apple.. My phone still powers on, I still have my custom lock screen and all but I can only make emergency calls and access SBSettings which doesn't actually work anymore. So I tried to restore the the custom firmware and itunes keeps giving me the 1600 error .. I have heard iReb can fix this but I dont even know if its compatible with the 3GS for this issue.. I have tried but its kinda confusing and hasnt exactly worked.. anyone know anything I can do?

From the Dev Team

there is no support for the 3GS for 3.1.3 you are stuck with 3.1.3 unless you backed up with Cydia. there is no jailbreak or unlock for the 3gs and 3.1.3 at the moment, nobody knows if or when.

Phone 3G and 3GS unlockers should always be very wary to update their firmware. This is no exception. If you make a mistake along the way you may find yourself updating to official 3.1.3 in which case you will lose your unlock, possibly forever.

iPhone 3GS users (regardless of unlock) should stay away from this and all 3.1.3 jailbreak tools unless you know you have your “SHSH hashes” backed up via Cydia. That’s because if you make a mistake you may find yourself stuck at official 3.1.3 with no way to jailbreak or come back down to 3.1.2 to jailbreak.

LOL.. you know whats funny? I read that before I updated.. the problem is my 3.1.2 jailbreak was really wonky.. and I couldnt restore to 3.1.2 cause i didnt have the SHSH so i have to upgrade to and jailbreak 3.1.3.. So I guess I have to Upgrade to 3.1.3 stock now huh? I'll wait to see what someone else might suggest first..

it's funny

that I quoted the Dev team I guess they are not good enough! these threads are becoming quite amusing I must say! 1st rule of Jb never upgrade until the Dev-Team or George Hotz says it's ok! 2nd rule see 1st rule 3rd rule if you don't fallow 1-2 you will just have to wait to see if they can or will jb 3.1.3. till then you are stuck! 4th rule nobody knows how long it will be! ;)

I did alot of research before I Jailbroke my 3.1.3, I had to cause I couldn't restore to 3.1.2. Now what I have found is that my Phone has bricked itself.. Cause I can not even Restore to stock 3.1.3.. I now get the error 23 message in iTunes when I try to restore.. I'm looking for a way to disable winterboard cause I still have my themed lockscreen showing and wouldn't be able to get the guys at apple to do a warranty replacement..

Your phone is not bricked. "Brick" has a very specific meaning in regard to iPhones, and what you describe is not it.

Error 23 is a communications error. It can be caused by a bad USB port, bad drivers, a network problem, or hardware failure on your iPhone. Try the following steps, attempting to restore after each step:

1) Make sure your phone is in DFU mode. (This applies to all subsequent steps, too)
2) Restart your computer.
3) Update iTunes to the latest version.
4) Try a different USB port on your computer.
5) Try a new USB cable.
6) Try to restore using a known-good computer/network (i.e., one that has recently been used successfully to restore an iPhone/iPod Touch.

If none of these things works, you probably have a hardware problem.

I think its a hardware problem.. Who knows of a good way to kill the iPhone.. I want to kill it so Apple cant tell whats wrong with it.. Right now they can still get to my themed lockscreen so they can tell its jailbroken and will not replace under warranty..

What about restoring to a custom 3.1.3 IPSW? If your phone is still pwned, this should work just fine... Worked on mine

My phone gets that error 23 in itunes when trying to restore to cutom or stock firmware.. the radio is fried... I'm stuck at no signal. nothing works.. i cant even get into the phone its stuck at emergency call lockscreen.. I want to disable my lockscreen to try get a replacement but I cant.. right now I'm looking for a way to safely destroy the phone.. or the software so the phone can't even come on.. that whay Apple would be forced to replace without telling it was Jailbroken
