Heres what happened:
I was installing boot camp with my windows xp cd and i foolishly partitioned my own hard drive so that now all of it is now compatible with windows. i didnt even finish installation so i cant go into windows either. im trying to reinstall Mac OS X but there are no places to install it. I ca open Disk utility and i see my hard drive but it is partitioned with windows. How do I restore it back to a Mac Hard Drive?

PLEASE HELPP

If you don't need to restore any data on that HDD, just go either to the Erase tab (1.) and select Mac OS Extended as Format, or if there are now two partitions, go to the Partition tab (2.) and select 1 Partition from the Volume Scheme drop down menu.
Also click the Options button (3.) and select GUID as Partition Scheme/Table (4.).

i need permissions to do all of this
how do i get permissions over it?

I cant screenshot it because im not on the computer currently. but basically in Disk Utility the Hard Drive looks like this

1.298.1 GB WDC WD3200...
2. disk0(this is another drive but i have no idea what it means)

1. is my actual drive and 2. is the partitioned drive i think. i dont have any permissions over it so i cant partition it or anything.

so @spinnerlys your guide will help if i can somehow unlock my hard drive?

You can't take a screenshot anyway with the restore DVDs, but an actual photo would be alright.

1.298.1 GB WDC WD3200... - this is the actual HDD.
2. disk0 - is it a separate entry, or is it connected to the WD3200... HDD via a small indent to the right (like a tree)?

If it is the latter then this is your partition, which is just not properly formatted.

If you can't take a photo, please transcribe the error message exactly.

And what Mac do you have?
