HELP! All of a sudden my applications folder has given me read only privileges! I can move stuff in or out if I authenticate each move, but I cannot make aliases or anything! I am logged in the way I always am. I tried logging out and in. I looked in sys prefs > accounts and I am still listed as an admin. When I get info to try to change the read only privileges on the apps folder it's greyed out! This is crazy! Why did this happen and why can't I change it back!

I solved my own problem. Dude, that sucked. Here's the answer for anybody that runs into this problem in the future and searches the archieve. I needed to turn down the details triangle in get info on the apps folder and click the lock icon in by the owner field. Then authenticate. Then I can change the folders privileges. I still don't know why it happened, but problem solved.

An additional note here. After fixing the problem the way I stated above, I repaired disk permissions, and sure enough, Blue Velvet was right. There were disk permission errors on the applications folder.

Thanks Blue Velvet

p.s. It brings up the interesting question of, how do disk permission errors occur? I'll go check the archives.
