Help Azureus pros

alright well i jsut got my powerbook 12" a couple of datys ago. i am really careful with this thing. I am trying to download some stuff but it will take a long time...huge files. two questions.

can i change some settings to speed up the download a bit...?

and..

can i Download with the powerbook closed..because i jsut dl and leave my computer..it gets really hot.... i have read a thread about dl while asleep but yea...

Well, i don't think u can download things via Azureus with the Powerbook closed. Yeah that happens when u leave the powerbook too long...maybe try to leave ur computer in an air-condition room or something like that too cool down the laptop...well, i don't know if u can download things when the com is asleep...maybe someone else knows this but i haven't come across it on how to download when the com is asleep...

I do not know of any way to use azureus while a system is in sleep mode.

there is a way to get more speed though. what I have done is go into preferences/transfers and change connection limits to 0. I used to average 40-50k for 2-3 d/l total but now often use 100% of my bandwidth. its nice when you want something fast. I have 2.5mb down/640k up adsl and my bit torrent experience is much better now.

as for the screen try the screen saver I use. its just a blank screen and uses no cpu power at all other than maybe 2% cpu use when it turns on but then it goes to 0% and stays there.

Yeah, if your computer goes to sleep while close then you won't download anything. My iMac kills its network connection when it's asleep. At least...it usually does.

You can also tweak ur Energy Saver preferences in your System preferences to put the display to sleep when idle for quite some amount of time...

The most likely speed enhancement is, if you've got your firewall on and haven't opened a port for Azureus, to open one--that's usually the cause of slow transfers. There are many posts here (and on the Azureus Wiki) describing how to do this, if you need instructions. If your faces are yellow, that usually indicates it's set wrong (or your ISP is messing with traffic--blocking that port mabe).

If you've already got the correct port open, the 2nd thing I'd make sure is that you have your upload cap set to a bit below the max up speed you actually get on your line--despite what the recommendation above says, so far as I know if you don't do this you'll max out your upload and if nothing else make browsing at the same time uncomfortable. I've made this mistake in the past, and setting it to a reasonable number. Download of course can be unlimited, since you'll rarely max it out anyway. For example, I have a 512Kbit up line, which equals 64KB/s up, of which I actually get around 40-50 depending on the time of day (I've tested), so I usually set my up to 30K to leave some overhead for browser use. I'd set it to 40 if I wanted to use as much as possible.

If neither of those does it, it's probably just a slow swarm--it happens.

My PowerBook gets hot occasionally and it's fine. I think its pretty much normal, as computers generate heat and with a laptop, there isn't a fan system to keep things cooler.

And no, theres no way to download with the computer asleep. When the computer is sleeping, it's pretty much the same as being completley turned off, but there's just enough power going through it to keep the memory in tact
