I know that because this thread has nothing to do with new iMac rumors and/or speculation, but I was curious as to if anyone on here has ordered any Mac computer through AAFES and if you were able to configure the computer at all. As far as I can tell with the iMacs, is that the only option I have is the size and nothing else. Probably a dumb question, but was hoping for some insight from the great community in these forums. Thanks in advance!

You can get a Mac through there now? Wow.

As for customization, I seriously doubt it.

I've always skipped and went straight to Apple's Federal Employee Store instead.

You have to dig for it, but it's there. It isn't as rich as an educational discount, but it's close. Enough to make up for the tax difference anyway, so you come out a tick better than you would (depending on your local tax rate, maybe 2 ticks) if you had went to AAFES to buy it.

I have ordered several things through AAFES and they have always been great as far as shipping goes and they are also tax free. I am not sure if they provide free shipping on computers, but they do on a lot of things. I am guessing they just sell the stock configurations however.

Any chance you have a link for the Federal Employee Store? I appreciate it!

Edit: Nevermind, amazing what searching Google brings you! Thanks for the info though!

I love getting things through AAFES too, and I have just recently converted to the Mac side of things and am looking forward to the new one greatly. Just looking for the best deals available to me out there. I bought my Dell through AAFES and I was offered many options including screen type, GPU, RAM and HDD size as well. Just wishful thinking in hopes of the same options for Apple.

Not surprising with Dell, really. You know how buddy buddy they are with the Feds.

Granted, we got all of our machines for the network straight from Dell off GSA. Why, I have no idea. You would "think" that supporting the local base economy would be a good thing, but contracts are contracts.

Glad you found the link. I would have ended up telling you to look under the where to buy link on Apple's site, which is where I found it a few years ago. Been kicking myself ever since for not finding it sooner.
