Hi everyone,

So there is a guy in my uni that is selling his new MacBook Pro late 2016 with touchbar that he bought last week on amazon (paying £1610) for just £1000. He said the reason for this price is that he is leaving in two weeks to go back to the US and that he didn't realize that he had to pay a lot of money in taxes. I've seen the mac and apparently there were no problems, but I haven't run any test. He is also asking me for cash since he is leaving soon. I don't really understand if this is a great offer or just a scam. What could I do to check that the mac is fine?

Turn it on and use it?? check that the specs match what the computer says in its details check the serial number online to see if it is reported stolen. If its new he should have box and receipt etc and insist that he transfers it to you on his iTunes account.

Make sure you egt him to follow this guide in front of you

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201065

and transfer any apple care that may be with the machine.

Not sure what he is on about with taxes he can just take it back to the US and no one will question it.

Sumthin' don't sound right to me.
Does this guy normally have money to throw away?

Remember the old saying:
If a deal looks too good to be true…
… it probably is.

We have just had one stolen from our showroom in Watford on Monday. Does your guy look like this?:

If he bought it last week, he can return it, get his original payment back. Your are being asked to purchase stolen property. You should decline.
