Hi all,

So I have a 24-inch, 2008 iMac that had been running 100% fine until now. I left my machine idle for some time, and when I came back to it, I woke up the screen only to hear this odd humming/buzzing noise coming from it.

This noise stops once the screen is put to sleep and when the screen is at max brightness. Any lower than max and I hear the noise - and it's the loudest at the lower brightness setting... which sucks because my eyes are sensitive to light.

I have researched this some, and it seems to be a problem with the power supply - is that correct? Bottom line, I don't want to pay the $100+ it costs for a 250W iMac PSU, so is there a way in which I can possibly service the existing PSU myself? There must be some coil or something on it that I can tweak. Anyone out there experienced in this sector?

I would very much appreciate it. Just fixed this thing's GPU with the baking method, and I've been so pleased with it. Don't want this noise thing to ruin the machine for me.
