Help! Cant upgrade to 3.1.2

i downloaded the 3.1.2 custom firmware from iclarified...i follow the instructions on how to install it using itunes...but i would always get an error message..the error message is "The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred" Im running the latest version of itunes...please help!

What custom firmware?
Why dont you just plug it to itunes and click upgrade or restore?

this is the file i dl 3.1.2 (3GS): iPhone2,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw

my phone is already jailbroken...if i upgrade it...wouldnt i lose everything?

No matter what if you want to upgrade the firmware on your phone you'd lose everything like JB apps etc..
All those will have to be installed again.
You cant for example upgrade from a jailbroken 3.0 to 3.1.2 without having to reinstalled all your JB items.
You can restore from backup and sync back all your settings,contacts,music, apps etc... but the JB stuff will be gone.

i tried to update it through itunes by clicking on update...and i still get the error msg...
