Just about to buy my first Mac mini, looking at the M2 pro, want to know if it is better to upgrade the CPU/GPU or RAM to 32Gb. Will be used for mainly photo editing
Any help gratefully received…

My understanding is that 16vs32GB will not make any noticeable difference in photo editing. BUT depending on how long you keep the machine, what software you use, and how often you upgrade it. I use DxO Photolab 6 and I personally do not run into any situations that I need more than 16GB, but who knows about version 10 in a few years.

Many thanks, so to upgrade to 12 core CPU and 19 core GPU, would provide more benefit?

I'll reckon that the base model, equipped with 16gb RAM and a 512gb SSD, will do fine.

However...
You might consider upgrading to a 1tb SSD for the extra speed. It's 2x as fast as the 512gb version. Adds $200.

Maybe? Personally I picked a base model M2 with the 24/512. Its still cheaper than the Pro for me by $300CAD, and I can use the extra 300 for more external storage. Are you a professional who has customers asking for deadlines?

I edit all my photos with DxO Photolab and most of the work is done by the Neural Engine it seems. Might even use the money for a new lens actually now that I think about it

Thanks all for your input…

Think I am going with the M2 Pro (base model) with 32Gb RAM and 1Tb SSD upgrades…

Hopefully this will provide more than enough for photo editing and last me for a good few years…
