Help Clipping

I just bought a Apple TV today and I have a problem. When I want to watch a video tech podcast and they have screen captures I cant see the whole thing. For example I cant see the option bar in Photoshop when I watch Pixel Perfect. I have a sony projection HDTV and I was thinking maybe its my tv cliping it but I dont think it should because it a component signal. Any ideas would be great. Thanks.

Back in the days of analog Tv the Tv receivers were factory set to zoom in on the picture anywhere from slightly to quite a bit. The reason being that they didn't want consumers seeing the edge of the picture and complaining. In fact some of the info that also got transmitted, like closed captioning is placed right on the edge of analog pictures.

Projection TVs have always had a bit of overscan in them. Even some LCD and plasmas which you might figure that given the nature of Digital TV, they wouldn't have any overscan. But alas they do too.

You could try looking in the menus for the screen geometry (size, positioning) controls. But chances are you will not have enough controls for what you need to do. Some of the newer LCD will display pixel for pixel to achieve a full screen display, but that is mostly on an input like the VGA which the AppleTV doesn't have.

If your TV has VGA input you might try that. I know there are VGA to HDMI cables. I'm not sure if they go from HDMI to VGA, or Component to VGA. But there is no guarantee that this will work as you want it to work, so buy it from somewhere that will take it back for a cash refund, without spending a fortune on shipping.
