Hi all, I’m new here.

I’m after a new MacBook , I’ve had my current 12 inch MacBook for about 4 and half years and it’s been great with no keyboard issues at all lol.

But it is getting a bit old in the tooth, tends to freeze occasionally etc. so feel it’s time for a newer model.

Problem is I got very used to this dead silent fanless MacBook 12 and all reviews on the newer ones tend to bang on about fan noise constantly. :(

I don’t use my MacBook for any video editing or stuff like that, so was wondering if there any versions out there that aren’t so loud in general use? I plan on keeping the MacBook for years so want it future proof to a point. Air ? Pro ? What’s best and would make the least noise lol.

Thanks.

Maybe you should consider just buying a 2017 model with 16 GB of memory?

It has 8.0 GT/s SSD Interface (the 2015 model has 5.0 GT/s, which is almost twice as slow). And it has faster memory — 1866 MHz instead of 1600 MHz.

My recent disk speed test:

Hi,
I actually thought about that, but the Apple Certified refurbished ones are very expensive here in Australia.

Also none are 16gb and like I said the price is also about the same as a new Air 2020 so it doesn’t really make sense. I wouldn’t like a used one online as I know mine still looks brand new , doubt most are as fussy as me.

Thanks though

Take a good look at the new MacBook Air.
You might want to pay a little more for an i5 CPU, but that's up to you.

I WOULD NOT BUY the current MacBook Pro 13".
It still has the problematic butterfly keyboard -- high risk of future failures.

If you want a "MacBook Pro" with a smaller-form-factor display, wait for the upcoming MacBook Pro 14" due out later this year. It will have the better "scissors" keyboard, which (on models 2015 and earlier) was very reliable.

Hi, thanks for that. I’m not sure what would be best. 🤷🏻‍♂️. As for the butterfly keyboards mine is over 4 and half years and has been trouble free. I must be lucky.

I guess my main criteria is fan noise, I know they will ramp up during heavy load. But I don’t want all this noise during general web surfing etc. after a having 12 inch fanless for years it’s going to take some adjustment in my part.
