Hi guys

A few days ago Apple store replaced my iPhone with a new identical device since they couldnt fix it, now I want to sell the new device without using/turning it on. Will the new owner have all my data? When I left my iPhone in the Apple store for service I turned off Find my iPhone, but didnt gave them my Apple ID login data.

I see on my iPad that my iPhone (with the old serial number) is listed under my iCloud devices, should I press "remove from account"? Will it also delete the backup? I am planning on buying one of the new iPhones after I sell this one, it would be great if everything would be there on the new device once I log in with my Apple ID.

Thank you in advance

If I understand the procedure correctly you remove the old device from your iCloud account. The new device if not switched on will just be an out of the box setup in that you would have to physically switch the thing on and start setting it up.

I’ve only ever once had a white box replacement and that was left for me to set up in the store, which I did so I would expect the same to be the case in this scenario.

No the new owner will not have any of your data if you have not set it up.

No it will not delete your backup, it will just remove from your account

Thank you jr866gooner, does this mean I should remove the device from my iCloud account and the new owner of my replacement device wont have any connection with my old device/account/icloud?

Will removing the iPhone from icloud devices delete the backup? I would like to save this if possible.

You can remove the device, your backup will still be there.

Remove device from iCloud, reset the device(if it was never activated you don’t even need to reset it)and you’re done. When you get new device restore account with your iCloud name and password.
