👋 Everyone,

This is my first time joining and I urgently need your advice and input.

Long story short, I bought my MBPR brand new back in 2015. I primarily used it for school, and some light browsing, and I truly believe that I took good care of it. My MacBook never gave me any issues whatsoever. However, after I got my screen replaced due to it having the delaminating issue, that’s when the problems started. At start up the screen would flicker and would eventually turn off and turn on by itself.
I went to the Genius Bar and they showed me pictures of the part where the lcd screen cable hooks up to the logic board looking black? They told me that it would be $700+, and they also hinted me at getting a new MacBook. Now, my MacBook doesn’t charge or turn on😞, and I regret taking it to get the screen fixed because it worked flawlessly beforehand.

Fast forward today, I bought another early 2015 MBPR a1502 MacBook, and when I opened the back cover, I noticed that the logic board “layout” was different. In other words, my Macbook has a dozen black small blocks and the other that I bought has one larger silver block?

Now my question is was I scammed?and or are these two logic boards interchangeable?

Thanks,
Christian

I realise this is an old thread - found it when looking for something else - but the "silver block" is simply a heatspreader over the RAM modules. It is an aluminum cap to help dissipate heat. If it were removed you'd find the same "dozen black small blocks" underneath. I suspect the board with the heatspreader is a newer reversion to address a point of failure or to accomodate a memory vendor spec requirement change.

You can use a mid-2014 board to replace a early 2015 board but it is not a good idea because the mid-2014/later-2013 LCD is not the same part # as the early 2015 LCD.

Booting a mid-2014 13" with an early 2015 LCD means you won't see anything on-screen until the OS loads the LCD driver.
