Help, Factory unlocked 3GS; can't restore

hey guys, i have a factory unlocked 3GS 16GB. its on 3.1.2 modem 05.11.07
I want to shift + restore it to 3.1.2 but iTunes gives an error "this device isn't eligible for the requested build" so anyone with an idea how can I restore it? I am usin winXP.

If you dont have your SHSH's saved thru cydia you cant restore to anything but 3.1.3
Try this and see if it goes thru incase you do have them saved thru cydia and you dont remember.

Saurik is a genius. Weeks before I even knew anything about SHSH I hit the 'Make my Life Easy' option (or whatever it said in Cydia), and that is exactly what saved my ass.

If you have a jb phone on 3.1.2, especially with the new bootrom, you must do this in Cydia if you have not already!!!

Successfully rebooted to 3.1.2 and jb w/ balckra1n all in the last 15 min, after coming within a hair's breath of putting the shackles on and upgrading to 3.1.3.

You know, we keep telling posters this but for some reason many of them don't bother to take 2 minutes to do this.

If you have a 3GS, it should be the very first thing anyone does immediately after jailbreaking and installing Cydia.

I did not jailbreak it earlier but now i want to. Am a bit new to this so please guide. Should i jailbreak it without retoring through iTunes.

the 4th and 5th digit in its serial number is 50 which means it has a new/fixed rom. will it jailbreak fine?

Don't need to restore

You should be able to JB it with Redsn0w 0.92 but it will be a tethered jailbreak, once complete, you will have to run redsn0w to restart the phone.

Get a tutorial from iClarified.

If you need to unlock, Blacksn0w should unlock it.

if its a teethered JB then I guess I better not jailbreak it. was thinking about updating to 3.1.3 since I don't think there will be released a proper JB for 3.1.2

Until someone finds an exploit, a tethered jailbreak is always gonna be a tethered jailbreak, regardless of what firmware you are on.
