Help finding out why step 8 of iClarified unlocking tutorial is skipped

So I've been using the iClarified tutorial for 3 days now trying to unlock a 2G iPhone running 3.1. Have tried this at least 30 times. Step 8 from the tutorial - loading the 3.9 and 4.6 bootloaders - is completely skipped over after I click build. A custom IPSW is built though, but when I use it to restore in iTunes, i receive an error message stating the iPhone cannot be restored, after it applies the custom IPSW. Any ideas here? I downloaded the most recent Pwnage Tool...

I seem to recall that the baseband/bootloaders in a 2G are not updated (and are already unlocked), therefore it skips that step.

You could probably Goggle for a confirmation.
